Easy Backgrounds

We will be making both the outside and center tile.
You will need to have a good working knowledge of psp.
I made these tiles using PSP X2 but you should be able to do it with earlier or later versions.

Open a new transparent image, 20 x 20. and zoom in 800% so you can see what you're doing.

You need to use three colors. One dark, one medium, and one light.

Use the custom selection tool and select a square with these settings.

custom select

Top and left set to 0.
Right and bottom set to 10.

Flood fill this selection with your darkest color.
I'm using #672727.
Modify and contract by 1.
Fill with your lightest color.
I'm using #ab6661.
Select none.

Duplicate this layer, then mirror, flip.
This is what you should have.

2 squares

Merge visible.

Select inside the two transparent squares and flood fill with your medium color.
I'm using #8a3f3c.
Modify and contract by 1.
Flood fill with the same lightest color, #ab6661.
Select none.

The last step is just adding some noise to it.
Adjust, add remove noise with these settings.

noise settings

Uniform
Noise 6
Monochrome checked.
That's it.

Save as a jpg.
